White Air Extreme Sports and Music Festival ‘09

Hey guys;

Just to let you know that we are putting on Europe’s biggest Extreme Sports festival next month, September 18th to 20th, on Brighton Beach.  Its going to be absolutely insane, with loads of epic sports you have heard of and probably a fair few that are new to you.

Here are just some of the sports that will be taking the festival by storm;

Aquathlon
BMX
Bocking
Capoeira
High Diving
Inline Skate
Jet Ski
Kayak
Kitesurfing
Land Yachting
MMA Martial Arts
Motocross FMX
Mountain Biking
Mountain Boarding
Orb
Parkour
Rollerskis
Sailing Dingy
Scuba Diving
Skate
Street Boarding
Street Dance
Surfing
Triathlon
Wakeboard
Windsurfing

and there are so many more sports on top of these that you will definitely find one that gets you hooked.  There will be loads of Pros there from all of the sports, and they will be offering their advice and tips from the top.

There is also the opportunity to give the sports you like a go, whilst riding next to the Pros.  Numbers are strictly limited though so be sure to book in advance, which is easy to do through our website.  Just click the ‘Have a Go’ link on our homepage.

This festival is not purely about sport though, there is also a star studded music line up that will be playing throughout the three days.

Headlining the music for the event are Biffy Clyro on the Friday, and the Doves and The Cribs on the Saturday. With support from some of the best British bands such as White Lies, this festival has it all.

The Lemonheads have recently confirmed their spot at the festival and complete a strong line-up with British Sea Power.

Here’s the Line up for Friday 18th September;

Biffy Clyro
White Lies
British Sea Power
The Boxer Rebellion
Doll & The Kicks
Flood of Red
Lyrebirds
This City

The Saturday is equally as good;

Doves
The Cribs
Lemonheads
Sky Larkin
Natty
White Belt Yellow Tag
Ben Howard
+ guests

The Sunday see’s the best of the local talent around Brighton heading up the Argus Live Stage, while all the sports reach their climax on the final day. It’s set to be a great weekend. For more information, visit the website: www.whiteair.co.uk

Bocking, difficult to explain but i will have a go..

Its like having small springy stilts attached to your feet.. They were going to be all the rage and revolutionise the way we travelled apparently.. However, it really took off with some groups, and what they can do on them is really impressive!

As for Capoeira.. Its a dance form that is generally performed by two people and is made to look like fighting, you would probably have seen it on some of the little stabs that the BBC uses before its programming? Two people dressed in red and white half fighting and half dancing??

I remember that - Cinderella Rockerfellas in Bolton circa 1985.

Apologies for my cynicism. I'm clearly far too old to be down wid da yoof.

Dont be daft, your never too old..

The festival is holding quite an extensive competition for kayaking and canoeing (is that how its spelt?) actually, however i think it is mostly sea based.. Do you guys do similar things at your club? Sea Kayaking/canoeing? And forgive my ignorance, what is the technical difference between the two?
I have done them both but could never actually give a definitive answer..
Phil

I would have defo fancied it for the kitesurfing and MMA but im on the sea Kayaking trip that weekend so im out

Underworld,

Again apologies for my cynicism, I guess I'm just jealous that all this good stuff wasn't so available when I had the time to do it all. It looks like a really good weekend (should I say "awesome" here?) and I hope it goes well for you.

Canoeing is when you use a paddle with one blade - think American Indians / Canadian trappers. You can sit or kneel, depending on the boat's design, and the boats are usually open although some specialist boats are closed cockpit and will use a spraydeck.

Kayaking is when you use a two-ended paddle - think Eskimos. You sit down and most "serious" kayaks have closed cockpits but sit-on-tops are becoming incredibly popular and a great way to get into the sport.

We tend to paddle kayaks in our club, although one recent trip saw me change from kayaking to canoeing as one end of my paddle broke off. We are mainly white water paddlers but will try our hand at anything which involves a paddle (as one of our members once, unwisely, said), and ironically as Phil hinted we will be sea kayaking the weekend of your event. We're also a long way from Brighton so I'd guess that it's unlikely that any of us will make it.

All the best,
Steve

Thats a shame.. Are you all going to be away that weekend?

Just been told that we have these 3 Mexican professional High Divers who are coming over to show us their routine.. Apparently they set themselves on fire, and dive from 90ft into 12ft of water..
