Westhoughton white waterNot known for its gnarly grade V, Westhoughton does have a little stream running through it. I think the official name is Hall Lee Brook, at least for part of its length, but it's always been known locally as "The Bonk" (yes, I know...).
After last weeks rain it was up, and when it's like this I often wonder about whether it could be paddled. Here is one bit, where it passes under Park Road (A58) and into Hall Lee Bank Park near my house (these were taken on Saturday afternoon).
For scale, the pipe passing under the road is a bit bigger than about Ų1.5m (it seemed like much more than that when I used to run through it aged about 10!).
OK, so you'd need to check the landing on those drops, clear the log jams, there are few low bridges to watch in the park, and the council probably wouldn't let you, but it must be worth thinking about.
But probably just thinking about.
