Snappers!Apart from paddling, scouting and my family I am fairly interseted in photography,
are there any other snappers out there?
I was wondering if anyone would be interested in doing some sort of "Photoshoot" sometime to get some pics for the rogues gallery perhaps?
I have no idea how/where/when this could be organised or even if it would work at all - I suppose that I am just "testing the water" so to speak!
My first thoughts would be just get a few boats on the Burrs and snap away. I guess that we might just have to "change the focus" (sorry) a little to posing for the pics rather than just paddling for fun!
does anyone have any experience of this or any ideas?

Although not obvious from many of the pictures in the gallery, I used to be very keen on photography, did a City & Guilds course once at evening classes (remember 35mm film?) and have an old Pentax SLR and a couple of lenses in the loft somewhere. I actually won a sleeping bag with a photograph from a slalom competition (frighteningly, that was 23 years ago!). Still a good sleeping bag though!
Although I now use digital cameras, the manipulation side has passed me by, and I keep promising myself to learn to use Photoshop properly.
Now I just take pictures of things I am involved in, rather than just for the sake of it, so that's not a bad idea of yours Dave, to actually go out with the intention of taking pictures. We'd also need some willing models.
We'd have to take it in turns, perhaps, as I don't think I could go to Burrs or any other river and stay dry.
Some "staged" or "posed" pictures would be a good idea for the website, and for any other publicity stuff we might produce.
Let's make it happen. I'm always keen for new pictures for the gallery.

If you want some for the website, maybe a few shots from training at the pool on a wednesday would be a good idea too, provided we can take pics in there of course, most swimming pools have issues with cameras but I think that only applies at "public" times.
As for "models" well I rule my self out - we would need paddlers with at least some skills to show off - LOL.

Dave,
I meant to ask before - where are you in your avatar?
...and are you in the big building with "601" on the front? Because if you are I can see you from here!

Not sure about the "601", I will check tonight when I leave.
The avatar was taken from a picture Aly took at Northenden Weir on the Mersey, near the opposite bank to the "get in" just below the weir. The original is actually on the Gallery, Mersey 12/07/06.

Steve,
I definately couldn't find a "601" on the outside of the building. Not sure if any of the buildings around me have that on. Don't forget that there are a couple of campuses around here, I am right down by the M6 building with Morgan plastered on the front.

OK, not that one then ..

'fraid not but I know where that building is, I drive past the big roundabout on my way to/from the M62. It is an AMEC building, but my bit of AMEC was sold off and Morgan Professional Services was created. We are on Birchwood Boulevard, much nearer to the precinct nestled against the M6, near the fly-over if that helps!

The thought of being in front of the camera scares me!
But i can certainly sort out taking some pics and having a mess around with them in photoshop or something!

Sounds like we just have to find some paddlers to go infront of the camera and this could work out OK.
I guess that it would only be fair if we all took a stint infront of someones camera, at least for a shot for the rogues gallery!!!
Maybe we need to float the idea on a wednesday night pool session to see if anyone wants to paddle, not many people are using this forum yet!

Just came across this from a friend...
These men are concreting solid steel pillars to stop vehicles from parking on the pavement outside a sports bar downtown.
They are cleaning up at the end of the day.
You really wouldn't want to be the one to explain the error of their ways would you??
Cheers
