River Washburn 19/04/09

Unfortunately the 5 April Washburn trip was postponed. The next release is on 19 April, so all interested post here and we'll make arrangements.

As previously described, the Washburn is a fast grade II river with one short bit of (probably) grade III. It's not for beginners but is a good next step for progressing paddlers who no longer find Burrs a challenge.

I'll be there for this one.

Thanks

Only Graham and I are heading over for this on Sunday. Anyone else interested shout now, there's room for a few more.

Hi,

If I'd paddled a bit more recently I'd come along with you. Am feeling a bit rusty at the mo, so maybe not the best river for a gentle paddle

(Although I have every faith in Steves and Grahams rescue abilities hehe)

I'm sure you'd be fine Mel, but if you're feeling rusty then I understand. Let me know if you change your mind.

I'm sure we could have used someone with scuba experience last time.

Maybe I should combine the two... Think the fins would be a problem.

I'll give it a miss on Sunday, but will DEFINATELY be out late May

Thing about the Washburn is that as long as you can stay upright after the big drop (about 2 m) then the rest is simply fast flowing paddling.  There are no rocks to avoid and unless you are trying to make the very small eddies then its not that techincal.  The only thing to think about is the fact that if you do swim, then it is a throwline job to get you out of the water (unless you are prepared to float down on youir back a fair way.

I have never met a Finnish paddler you are more likely to meet people from Yokshire on the Washburn!
