November trip weekend of 8/9th

Allen is organising a trip on the Rothay later in the month and can't make the 'official' second weekend of the month offical run.  Steve will not be able to make the second weekend either.  There are several possiblities:

1) Do a flatwater trip aimed at all club members but particually beginners

2) Go to Halton Rapids

3) Burrs (Ramy run)

4) A grade 2 river somewhere, possibly the Goyt

If we do a flatwater trip we could use a canal or a river like the Weaver near Winsford.  Another alternative is to do the Mersey (more or less flat!).

Halton Rapids is only open for the next three months and one we usually do.  This is on the River Lune near Lancaster and an extremely wide river.  We paddle upstream at the side and then move across to the rapids near the middle.  The further you can get upstream, the better you are!  The harder rapids are near the top.

For the 4th option I am suggesting grade 2 since Steve and Allen are away and I'm not sure who else is available, it is only fair to make this trip something within the scope of novice paddlers and therefore an easier grade 2 is favourite.

Please let me know your opinions on this.

I'll join you on whatever you decide - I fancy going to Burrs sometime soon, purely so that I can guage the difference in my new boat.

Will go with the flow wherever though - any ideas what day yet?

Am interested in doing something this weekend (Sat/Sun) and not too fussed where.
Have to be back by around 5ish either day though.
Won't be down tonight but will check the forum to see what the outcome is.

We could do the Goyt on Sunday if you are interested.  Let me know and I will contact MCC.

Sounds good.

I'll let Chris know, but I think he may struggle with Sunday - I'll keep you posted.

Sounds good to me.

I'm fine for Sunday, but Chris can't make it - any ideas what time yet?

Suggest that we meet at Brabyn's Park Marple Bridge, Stockport at say 10.30.  We then leave the boats with someone and shuttle the cars down to the Manchester Canoe Club site, where we will make ourselves known to their club secretary and pay the visiting paddler's fee (£2), this will give us insurance and hopefully access to their showers.  I have paddled the Goyt before and we are looking at mostly grade 2.  We will probably portage the weirs at the start, paddle down to the club site (about one hour) and have a bit of a play/practise.  It looks like Jon, Graham and myself but if anyone else wants to go just post here.

Directions may be of use:

Follow A626 towards Marple, go past Marple Railway Station and turn left before the bridge across the river (White House on the corner), follow road and park up in carpark (you will see the children's playground).

Went for a look today and the river is fairly low (but should be okay), their are two weirs, the first cannot not be run due to their being no water flowing down the sides and a tree blocking the middle.  The second weir has been the site of a fatality in the past and whilst it should be okay I don't think it is worth it for what would be a couple of minutes of paddling so we will get in below it.
