The membership year ends on 30 September. I will soon be wandering round with a stack of membership forms hassling you for your money.

We're a small club, and subs are the club's main source of income since the pool sessions are run to be just about self-sustaining.

We have recently bought a fair amount of new personal gear to replace some of the worn / out-of-date kit, we have bought one used kayak this year and would like to get at least one more, although for a small club the price of a boat is significant (no-one really objects, but it isn't reasonable for club members to be loaning their own boats out to newcomers on a regular basis). Each year the club also pays affiliation fees to the BCU and to Burrs.

The club is not strapped for cash, but obviously our outgoings need to be matched by our income.

Just a thought Steve, but have you thought of raising club funds through other means as well as subscriptions - football cards, sponsored paddle etc?

I have been involved in the odd bit of fundraising for charities before, and to be honest it's a PITA and the effort you put in isn't generally worth the return unless you organise a major effort with a large number of people - I don't think we need this.

Really, the point of this post was just to remind members to get their money in, as it's what the club needs to keep ticking over. Last year it did take a while before everyone had paid up.

I will produce some sort of membership card this time. Probably.

Please make the effort to get the forms back complete, for boring insurance & liability reasons. This still applies even if I have your details from last year. In particular make sure that we have an emergency point of contact, and make sure you advise us of any changes to that. I plan to keep an up-to-date list of these for trip leaders to carry with them. Also if I there's no email address then you will miss out on news and updates when these are sent out.
