March tripThere were two reasons why we were as busy as we were last year:
1) we planned to always paddle somewhere on the 2nd weekend of each month
2) beginners had turned into novice paddlers with the confidence to try 'harder' rivers.
So, pencil in the weekend of the 7/8th March for a paddle. The last trip (January) was a great success with a record number of members turning out. I intend to plan a trip but need to have an idea of who can make it and what sort of experience you have. I am happy to paddle on the saturday or sunday so please let me know if you make it.

Following discussions last night this will be another novice level trip, probably on the Mersey, exact stretch to be decided nearer the time. The Mersey is a fairly slow and flat river, with the odd weir (which can be portaged) and some very small rapids.
Some information here:
http://resource.brookbankcanoes.c...e_articles/mersey_canoe_trail.pdf
and here:
http://www.manchestercanoeclub.or...0canoe%20trail%20map%20_mar06.pdf
There was at least one preference expressed for Sunday, so I suggest we go with that.

I can do either day, but would prefer an early start if we're doing Saturday (match kicks off at 5.15!!).

I would guess that this will probably be Sunday, as so far everyone has either said that they can do both days or would prefer Sunday.
We will confirm for definite on Wednesday night.

I will be up for this one if it is on Sunday as long as I can sort out childcare.

All,
Sunday is forecast to be cold and windy, although the Mersey is between tall banks for large sections so we might escape the wind.
Please ask if you need advice about what to wear. If anyone needs to borrow any club kit (boat, paddle or personal gear) then let us know ASAP.

Details for Sunday:
Meet at Sale Water Park at 11:00.
We'll be in the main car park on the waterfront by the centre & Decker's restaurant. The postcode is M33 2LX but that doesn't get you all the way there, you have to follow the road further round and parallel to the motorway to get to the car park.
Once we've met up we'll decide which section of the river to run, then shuttle the boats and cars to the start/finish. This is usually the most tedious and time-consuming part so if we can minimise faff and keep it sharp, the better for everyone. We were discussing last night about possibly going onto the lake after the river trip for a bit of technique practice, depending where we plan to get out of the river. If we do this then there will be a charge of £5 or £6 each, but that does allow us to use the changing rooms.
As usual our planning is dynamic (not in any way indecisive!), so exact plans will be finalised on the day.
People I think are going:
Carl
Me & Conor
Tracy, Cameron & Calum
Debra, Phil & Stanley
Lisa
Graham
Bob (possibly)
Bruce (possibly)
If you're not on the list that's because I wasn't paying attention, so please post here if you're planning to come and I've forgotten you.
See you then

Great, should be a really good turn out. See you there.
Metcheck reckons 5°C, dry and windy, making it feel like -1° to -3°C in the wind. Winter woollies, I think.
