Club news

Hi all,

I am planning a website update soon, but in the meantime please take notice of the following important bits of club news:

POOL CHARGES
Westhoughton Pool requires that a qualified lifeguard is present at all times on the poolside. So far this year Paul Gray has been acting as our lifeguard, which means of course that he doesn't get to paddle. This is unfair, so as from next week, we will be using the services of a pool lifeguard, and of course this will be at an additional charge. To cover this, the charges for each 45 minute session (£4.00 members / £5.00 non-members) will remain the same, but those who paddle during both sessions will be charged accordingly (those who use a boat briefly while coaching won't be charged, common sense will be applied). Numbers in each session will still be limited to 10 boats on the water at any time, and priority in the first session will be given to junior paddlers and coaching of novices.

MEMBERSHIP
The membership year started on 1 October. I have a number of completed membership forms returned to me, but not all by any means. Please get these back as soon as possible, with subscriptions if you have not paid these. If you have paid subs to Graham but not given me a form please let me have that too so that the records are complete. Until you have paid your subs you will not be covered by the club's insurance, nor will you be eligible for use of the facilities at Burrs for which the club pays an affiliation fee. As the pool sessions are costed to just about break even, membership fees are the club's main income, which funds all the main outgoings such as BCU & Burrs affiliations, and the replacement of club kit, some of which is planned imminently. It has to be said that more of the newer members have passed forms to me than the more established familiar faces (you know who you are!). Ask me for a form if you need one, or print one off from the website.

TRIPS
A programme of trips will be agreed and published after the next committee meeting. In the meantime, there has been talk of an informal trip to Burrs sometime soon - possibly Sunday 25 November, in the morning. This won't be a formal club trip, and the arrangements will depend on those who want to go along. Ask around at the pool next Wednesday or email me if you can't make the pool. You don't need much experience to paddle at Burrs, but bear in mind the time of year and make sure you are equipped accordingly (ask at the pool to borrow kit - a few days notice is appreciated).

WEBSITE
After a busy period where I haven't updated the website, I'm planning a bit of a revamp. Please let me have any suggestions or material I can include. In particular, if anyone wants to write a brief report for either the Windermere or Halton Rapids trips, I'd appreciate that (see those on the events page for examples), and any paddling or club related pictures or video that you might have for the gallery. I'm keen on keeping the site updated and fresh, as it is the most common way for new members to get in touch.

See you on the water.....

Steve
