Burrs, low but sunny, 4/6/08

Last night’s turn out was the most I can remember. I think there was a total of 18 paddlers at Burrs, comprising the usual suspects, plus some newcomers and some old friends we haven’t seen for some time.

Unfortunately even putting this number of boats into the river didn’t push the level up at all, it was a scrape most of the way down, and nowhere was really playable. That’s the price we pay for paddling in good weather.

Still, it was an enjoyable evening in the sun. Conor shot the big weir for the first time (with Jason) and even had a go at surfing a wave. A few of us spent time doing a bit of rescue & swimming practice at the road bridge weir, taking turns jumping in and throwing ropes. Sometimes the rope and swimmer were even in the same place. Good practice for those doing the rescue course this Sunday, although the grade II rapids above the Chipper don’t really compare to Burrs in it lowest state!

It was really busy last night - good to see it though.
And cheers Steve for bring the throw line, I must admit that both myself and Harry had a great time floating down the river waiting for that bit of string..........

and it did give me an excuse to test my new BA (with out the embarrasment of a swim), I am glad to say that it worked!!!
