Burrs 8/7/09

A fantastic turn-out last night: 15 people on the water at an OK level (not as high as we’d hoped).

Lots of coaching going on as well as playing on the waves and at the squirt spot, followed by chaos as everyone tried to fight their way onto the bottom wave at once. This was when bigger boats had an advantage as they could barge their way on sideways and wipe everyone else off in one big sweep. No-one had their teeth knocked out with a paddle so it counts as a success.

After that we did a bit of swimming & throwline practice, and I have made a mental note of who I do and don’t want waiting with a rope below any rapids I might swim down (only kidding?).

Jonah Hitchen was out but he failed to work his magic and I stayed in my boat.

Also a good number made it to the pub to discuss the next few trips (as well making plans for September 2010!), so a great night all-round.

I think this shows that the club is getting stronger and lots of our newcomers are becoming better and more confident paddlers, ready for the next few months’ river trips.

Next week is the AGM, so the paddle will be a quick blast down the river. See you all then.
