Burrs 6th May 09Okay so water levels were fairly high after a week of rain and I was in my new playboat for only the third time. We jumped on the canal and paddled to the 'get out'. I was thrown by the fact that a new step had been put in place and decided to try it out. I sat on the back of my boat and started to climb out. At this point I fell in. Steve immediatley went into his usual rescue mode and tried to get his camera out, by luck I was able to get on the path before he managed to get a shot.

I have to admit to falling in the canal there myself, only it was covered in ice that time. It's a popular spot for getting wet, there's no really elegant way of getting onto the platform.

SwimmingI also must confess.
The big rock behind the 2nd drop jumped out off the water and grabbed my boat dragging me over and inviting me to swim. Fortunatly my hero's John (who saved me) and Carl (who saved my boat)
were on hand to guide me to the bank
Cheers Guys

Hi Dave, it is good to hear that your back is okay. Paddling can take its toll at times (as with any sport) and it should be another good night tomorrow, but with less water.
With regard to Lara's comment about paddling together, it is sometimes better to split up into smaller groups on the Burrs. This is personal choice and largely determined by what you want to get out of the session*. As coaches we will ensure that we spread ourselves out and you make sure that each group is covered. Obviously we are there to enjoy ourselves and I would not want to think that anyone felt left out.
When we do river trips we will be more formal about this and paddle as one group. It is normal to put our more experienced members at the front and back, taking it in turns to lead a section of river. We will also organise a 'buddy' system for novices.
See you on the water
Carl
* there is always something to learn. have a go out, practice, etc and it may be worth discussing this at the start.

I think Lisa was taking the micky out of phil for not paddling rather than anyone who was there.
I wont be out tonight (sorting out the equipment for the scout trip on the river goyt at the weekend) but see you next week.
