BURRS 24/AUGUST/09 ON MY OWN !

just decided on the last min to go to burrs expecting a few others to be there , but no one was , as a new member i went last wednesday with everyone and went over the weir , this week because it had been raining today i got to the edge and instead of getting stuck on the edge like last week !  it pulled me over and without warning down i went  , taking all the advise i was given last week i managed to make it to the end with out any problems , i will try and make it to chester on wednesday but seems along way to go for a few hours ...

Hi Lee, the Burrs does come up rather quick after rain so it is very tempting to jump on last minute.  However, it is not always safe to paddle on your own, since accidents can happen, in moving water especially.  In addition it is all to easy to lose gear downstream.

When you start paddling with us on bigger rivers you will no doubt see rescues where one person gets the swimmer and others the boat and paddle, I will be shortly be posting some YouTube videos of such events from our outing on Sunday.

As time goes on you will get to know other local paddlers so last minute runs can be easily arranged, in addition you could use this forum and also the community pages of UK Riversguidebook http://www.ukriversguidebook.co.uk/
When we move indoors for pool sessions over winter, we do lots of informal runs down at the Burrs which are often done on a short notice basis, so grab a few phone numbers next time we meet up.

Anyway, glad you had a good paddle and hope you can make it Weds.
Carl
