Thought id better own up to this since i swam without even being in my boat and Darren has got the evidence on film.
We paddled up the river into the current to a point were it was to strong to carry on, so we had to get out and pull our boats.
At this point it all went wrong. Somehow i managed to tip my boat so the river filled it up and knocked me over and i ended up getting washed down the river on my back. Graham saved my boat and got it to the side. whilst i was walking back up to him  Carl was stuck in the middle of the river with just his paddle and didnt seem to be able to move anywere as he had just lost his own boat down river causing Darren to chase it
somehow not falling over (i still dont know how he stayed on his feet)
Eventually we sorted ourselfs out and carried on up to the others were they were sat chilling out eating thier dinner

I was hoping that no one would remember that my boat had to get rescued

I can't remember how I ended up stood in the middle of the river with just my paddle for support, I think it had started by getting involved rescuing someone elses boat.  Anyway the water was less than two feet deep but it goes to show how much force there is.  With regard to how I managed to get across without falling in, this is due to the fact that cameras were present and I have recently been trying to maintain an image of knowing what I'm doing.

With regard to the above I must confess to my pinning incident (it's on film anyway).  The only decent drop on the Brathay (two levels each about the size of the broken weir at Burrs) has a nice looking breakout behind a boulder half way down.  I tried to go for this, got my nose in, but the back of my boat got hit by a rock just underwater and I was turned side on getting pinned above the drop.  I eventually got off and had three more atttempts, each time being more dramatic.!

Carl

ps glad your family's okay Phil
