I'm "working" in Barrow-in-Furness for a few days so I came up with an excuse for not using a hire car and brought my playboat. The intention was to have a go at one of the surf spots on Walney Island but in true club tradition the sea was a millpond last night.
So I went over to Coniston and paddled for an hour in the sunset, with the mist rolling over the hills and almost no wind. No-one else around except two fishermen so it felt like I had the lake to myself. I spent a few minutes just drifting along without paddling, with no other sound than the water lapping the boat and the odd birdcall.
Just thought I'd make you all jealous. Now, where to go tonight?
(I have now realised however, that flatwater is hard work, especially in a playboat. I think I'll stick with the downhill water most of the time)
