Hi all, just in case you were wondering from Steve's report..... Yes, it was me
Steve went over the first rapid and made it look nice and easy, next it was my turn. I remembered to paddle through it and was attempting to break out when (and I can only assume here) the fabled Irwell Kracken took hold of my boat and turned it upside down! Either that or I did something wrong
I was quickly recsued by Steve and the Kraken got away to cause more damage to unwary paddlers! |

... but you weren't the only one ...
I assume your guts suffered no ill effects from the murky water? At least the first one is out of the way without too much drama, the trick now is to make it your last. (From my own experience as number two to Carl's ex-position as head swimmer I know that it might not be).
At least you know what happened and therefore learnt from it. Next time bring a harpoon gun to take out the Kraken. The other thing is to make sure your boat points forward on your roofrack as the river gods don't like it the other way round and will punish you. As I brought your boat along then it's probably my fault.
(oh yes - edging the boat helps if the above fails)

.....I guess I ought to own up too.
I felt left out watching others going in and wanted to practice my roll (unsuccessfully). |

I knew it couldn't possibly have been my fault. hehe - and slightly more plausible than my Kracken explanation...
New one is yellow and orange, should be easy to spot floating "sunny side up" down the river |

| As the winner of last year's swim league and the owner of a blue kayak, do I need to say more? |

Well it all makes sense now - my Kendo is blue and orange.
I reckon it is just that the blue colour on boats has a natural affinity with the river.
So to explain my problem.....my boat is blue on the "up-side" and therefore as the blue side of the boat is attracted to the water my boat is happiest that way ie. "up-side" down.
