Given that rain had been forecast for last week I posted a suggestion that we do a trip today (Sunday) as it happened the rain didn't come and only two of us could make it (Mel and myself), however, the water was at a reasonable level and the weather nice.

Mel and I were on the water for 10.15 and despite my initial misgivings about paddling along the canal, it didn't turn into too much like hard work, although for some parts we did have to use the surface vegetation to push ourselves forwards.

We arrived at the top of the weir to find a large number of paddlers from Wigan Canoe Club?  However, we were able to spend some time playing in the stopper at the bottom of the weir and then moved downstream.  The water levels meant that the broken weir involved a fairly big drop and I found it fairly difficult to get into the hole, being pushed backwards each time I tried.

We spent some time at the 'squirt' spot practising vertical moves and moved down to the other two weirs, (which had nice waves on them), but weren't as 'sticky' sideways as I thought they may have been.  We played under the road bridge for a while and got out at the usual surf wave.

This was a good morning's paddle and one which I would like to repeat on a fairly regular basis, given the popularity of the pool.

Thanks Carl, it was a good little outing.
Playing in the squirt spot involved Carl talking me through a freestyle move.
Edge, sweep, turn, back paddle, roll...... I think we impressed Wigan Canoe Club tho
