I have just been given the green light to assess up to 2-star. If anyone is interested in being assessed let me know. I think that most members who have paddled on the Burrs will have little difficulty in getting a 2 star although there are some parts for which we will have to get the club canoe out and we do need to practice rescues (in the pool!). Follow this link for more information
http://www.bcu.org.uk/tests-and-a.../paddlesport-start-i-1-to-3-star/
Star awards can be important when having to demonstrate competence to someone who doesn't know you (eg Holmes Pierpoint, although 3 star is needed here?) and of course in youth groups such as scouts.
I think Graham and Allen are also assessors so perhaps we can run a club assessment sometime.

Hi Carl,
I've got my 2*, but it was the old style one. I'd be interested in having a paddle of a canoe while you're carrying out training |

Even though I have 3*, 4* and am working towards the new 4*, I will also need to do the new 2*. This will mean that, assuming that I actually pass my L2 assessment in October, I will also be able to assess.
Go easy on me.
Amy has been talking about getting back into paddling so 2* would be good for her to aim at. We also need to consider setting up some paddlepower sessions for the under-14s. (no Mel, you don't fit into that "younger member" category)

Yes, but they don't do the badges any more so we can't sew them onto our BA and look like Griff Rhys-Jones's kayak instructor at Symonds Yat. _________________ Steve Thomas

Hi Carl
Just been reading about the 2 star if you think I am ready for it. I will have a go. As for Fiona could she start doing the paddlepower Scheme then she dose not get board.
